Oil companies’ compliance in tax remittance spurs revenue growth in Buliisa

Through consistent training, SEATINI has empowered stakeholders to strengthen financial systems in Buliisa District.

Buliisa: Enhanced compliance by oil companies in tax remittance is significantly boosting local revenue collection in Buliisa District.

This was revealed during a revenue enhancement and mobilization engagement organized by Kakindo Women Integrated Development Agency (KAWIDA) in partnership with SEATINI Uganda recently, at Adonia Hotel, Buliisa Town.

The Southern and Eastern Africa Trade Information and Negotiations Institute (SEATINI) Uganda has been at the forefront of equipping local governments with skills and strategies to improve revenue mobilization.

Through consistent training, SEATINI has empowered stakeholders to strengthen financial systems in Buliisa District.

Godfrey Sabiti, the Buliisa District Chief Finance Officer, highlighted the transformative impact of SEATINI’s interventions.

“In FY 2023/2024, we collected UGX 514 million against an expectation of UGX 800 million. However, in just under half of FY 2024/2025, we have already collected over UGX 550 million, marking a significant improvement,” Sabiti noted.

He attributed the progress to capacity-building efforts and the adoption of digitalized tax collection methods, which have minimized financial leakages.

Gilbert Tibasiima, Vice Chairperson of Buliisa District, praised SEATINI for its unwavering support and encouraged the continuation of such initiatives to further strengthen the district’s revenue base.

“Your efforts have not only improved our collection rates but also introduced sustainable revenue management practices,” Tibasiima remarked.

Aloyzious Kitengo, SEATINI Programs Coordinator, urged revenue stakeholders to identify challenges in local revenue mobilization and develop innovative solutions tailored to the district’s unique needs.

“Sustainable revenue mobilization requires continuous adaptation and proactive engagement from all stakeholders,” Kitengo emphasized.
