Obibi thrown out as NRM tribunal declares Okao winner in Omoro LCV Chairmanship Race

With a decisive margin of 2,221 votes, the Tribunal declared Okao the duly elected NRM flag bearer for the Omoro District LCV Chairperson seat.

Omoro: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Tribunal has officially overturned the earlier declaration of Okot Andrew “Obibi” as the party’s flag bearer for the Omoro District LCV Chairperson seat.

The Tribunal has instead confirmed Okello Peter Douglas ‘Okao’ as the rightful winner of the hotly contested party primaries.

The decision comes after a formal petition, review process, and a meticulous vote recount, during which the Tribunal uncovered substantial electoral irregularities that were found to have significantly influenced the original outcome.

According to the Tribunal’s findings, a re-tally of votes from Lakwaya and Labora Sub-counties, based on the official Declaration of Results (DR) forms, revealed that Okello Peter Douglas Okao received 4,484 votes, whileOkot Andrew Obibi garnered only 609 votes in the disputed areas.

This adjustment brought the final vote tally to 15,717 votes (52.6%) for Okao, 13,496 votes (45.1%) for Obibi and 682 (2.3%) valid votes.

With a decisive margin of 2,221 votes, the Tribunal declared Okao the duly elected NRM flag bearer for the Omoro District LCV Chairperson seat.

This ruling not only reshapes the party’s internal dynamics in the district but also reaffirms the Tribunal’s commitment to upholding electoral integrity within the NRM.
