NUP’s Bobi Young arrested for possession of military attire
He has been handed over to the Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force (JATT) for further processing.
Kampala: Bobi Young, also known as Twinomujuni Anthony, has been arrested in Kampala for illegal possession of military attire.
The operation, led by security forces, took place at his home on Thursday, May 23, 2024. During the raid, they discovered items resembling those used by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), including ranks similar to a 4-star general, walke-talkie, military police berets, and desert military shoes.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, says Twinomujuni will be charged with both illegal possession of government stores and inciting violence.
Onyango asserts that Twinamujuni has been handed over to the Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force (JATT) for further processing.
This incident comes shortly after the UPDF issued a warning on May 2, 2024, urging individuals to cease wearing military outfits with UPDF imprints, such as warm suits, jackets, ranger boots, berets, caps, and backpacks.
The police had also previously directed private security organizations, bouncer associations, political groups, and individuals to stop using police uniforms and rank insignia (PIPS), as it is illegal.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says the operation on security attire and equipment will continue.
