Ntungamo MPs, district officials lock horns over road cash
He said that no money should be returned to the coffers, when the district roads are impassable.
Ntungamo: The Ntungamo District members of parliament are at loggerheads with political and civil leaders over the shunning of district roads committee meetings.
In a letter dated June 6, 2024, Timuzigu Michael Kamugisha, the district roads committee chairperson who also doubles as Kajara County MP, invited members to the meeting at the district hall on Friday, June 21, 2024, but they did not turn up.
To his dismay, the politician received another letter from district Eng Kushemererwa Charles a few hours before the meeting stating that the meeting had been postponed to a later date.
Hon. Timuzigu stressed that the district engineer usurped the powers of the chairperson of the Roads Committee to postpone the meeting without his knowledge.
He revealed that it was a shock for all political and civil leaders, including the chief administrative officer, to shun the meeting, expressing that there must be something they are hiding.
Hon. Timuzigu assured the general public that the meeting has been rescheduled for the next day, and if it fails to turn up, they will petition the Uganda Road Fund and the office of the IGG to swing into action to investigate if the 1.7 billion shillings road fund has been utilized efficiently.
He said that no money should be returned to the coffers, when the district roads are impassable.
The Member of Parliament representing Rushenyi County, Hon. Naome Kabasharira, noted that as legislators, they will not sit back and watch, yet the road funds in the district are being mismanaged by the technocrats.
The politician noted that they had been requesting the BOQs (bill of quantities) but in vain, which raises the suspicion that there must be some rot on the district roads.
However, the postponderance letter noted that the political and civil leaders are engaged in PDM with OPM in Kampala from June 18 to 21, 2024.
