Ntungamo DHE tips public on fighting non-communicable diseases
He noted that many people only seek medical help when symptoms worsen
Ntungamo: The Ntungamo District Health Educator (DHE), Mr. Nesterio Twesigye, has urged the public to join forces in combating non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the district by following President Museveni’s seven tips on immunization, writes Amon Muhumuza.
At a recent engagement held at Rubaare Health Centre IV, he highlighted diseases like asthma, tuberculosis, hepatitis B, measles, and rubella as pressing health issues.
The meeting included local health teams, community leaders, and lay readers, all committed to raising awareness about preventing and managing these diseases.
Mr. Twesigye emphasized the importance of regular medical checkups for all residents, whether symptomatic or not, as early detection can lead to timely treatment.
He noted that many people only seek medical help when symptoms worsen, leading to cases where diseases are discovered too late for curative treatment, leaving patients with only palliative care options.
The health educator also warned against religious groups promoting myths about government health programs, stating they would be held accountable for spreading misinformation.
The assistant DHE, Mr. Robert Ochom, echoed these sentiments, stressing that immunizing children according to recommended guidelines is essential to enhancing healthcare outcomes in the community.
Participants pledged to share these vital health messages and promote the president’s immunization tips.
