UG Decides 2026

NRM’s Amanyire nominated for Masindi Municipal Mayor

“If elected, I will use my salary to support the people of Masindi Municipality and improve their livelihoods,” Amanyire pledged.

Masindi: The NRM party flag-bearer for the Masindi Municipality mayoral race, Rogers Amanyire, has vowed to dedicate his entire mayoral salary to the public if elected in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

Amanyire made the pledge on Tuesday after being officially nominated by the Masindi District Returning Officer, Gastervus Kakaire, at the Electoral Commission offices in Masindi Town.

Kakaire confirmed that Amanyire had successfully fulfilled all the nomination requirements and was now a duly nominated candidate for the mayoral seat.

Speaking shortly after his nomination, Amanyire promised to focus on proper accountability for public funds, enhanced service delivery, and effective implementation of government programs to uplift the lives of Masindi Municipality residents.

“If elected, I will use my salary to support the people of Masindi Municipality and improve their livelihoods,” Amanyire pledged.

He further explained that his decision to contest was driven by the rampant corruption, poor performance, bribery, and lack of accountability within the municipal leadership. Amanyire also cited the need to reorganize the municipal trade order, which he described as disorganized and ineffective.

“I was forced into this race because of the glaring mismanagement in the municipality. If given the opportunity, I will confront these issues head-on and work to restore order and service delivery,” he added.

Also nominated was Abdul Aziz Katuku, who will be contesting for the position of Directly Elected Councillor representing Southern Ward in Masindi Municipality.

Meanwhile, Sauda Burungi, the current Vice Chairperson of Central Division, and the NRM flag bearer for Woman Councillor representing Southern Ward, has promised to focus on improving sanitation, tackling the garbage crisis, supporting community income-generating groups, and reducing early school dropouts.

On his part, Godfrey Musindi, the incumbent councillor for Civic Centre Ward, who is seeking to retain his seat, stated that he remains committed to defending the interests of the electorate and will continue lobbying for development projects across the municipality.

In Karujubu Division, Benjamin Tumukwasibwe, the NRM flag bearer for Kisiita Ward, pledged to champion for clean water sources, better road infrastructure, and the installation of streetlights in his area.
