NRM ‘rebel’ MP Tinkasiimire loses flag

The results were officially declared by Kagadi District NRM Registrar Patrick Mbasiima at the URDT Multipurpose Hall tally center.

Kagadi: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries in Kagadi District have delivered dramatic political shifts, with long-serving MPs losing party backing ahead of the 2026 general elections.

In Buyaga West Constituency, incumbent MP Barnabas Tinkasiimire, often described as a rebel MP due to his outspoken stance on party issues, was defeated by Denis Namara Bindeba in a tightly watched primary.

Namara secured 48,166 votes (57.9%), decisively beating Tinkasiimire who garnered 18,288 votes (22.0%). Other candidates included James Byarugaba 16,151 votes (19.4%), Johnson Habasa 503 votes (0.6%), Hashaka Johnson 55 votes (0.07%), John Tumwebaze 2 votes (0.002%).

In his victory speech, Namara thanked the people of Buyaga West for their overwhelming support and called on all his former opponents to rally behind him for the unity and strength of the NRM.

He reiterated his commitment to community development, promising road rehabilitation and continued support for youth programs, including his popular Christmas Football Tournament.

Meanwhile, in Buyaga East Constituency, another political upset unfolded as Stephen Twesige Rulekere unseated incumbent Eric Musana, clinching the NRM flag with 45,600 votes (64.5%). Musana trailed with 24,383 votes (34.5%), while former district official Ambikiize Obed received just 630 votes (0.9%).

Twesige expressed gratitude for the electorate’s trust and urged unity in the party as it heads toward the national elections in 2026.

In the Kagadi District Woman MP race, Naziiwa Margret Rujumba emerged victorious with 75,962 votes, unseating incumbent Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi who garnered 47,078 votes. Other contenders included Namara Apophia  8,528 votes, Prossy Nawheera 6,290 votes, Murombe Dorothy  915 votes and Esther Turyasingura 682 votes.

Naziiwa thanked the people of Kagadi for their overwhelming support, vowing to steer the district toward meaningful development and greater opportunities for all.

With these sweeping changes, the NRM party in Kagadi District now looks ahead to the 2026 general elections with a new slate of candidates poised to carry its flag into the national contest.
