NRM grabs parliamentary seats in Masindi

She pledged to ensure completion of key government projects, including the construction of Masindi Central Market and Masindi Hospital.

Masindi: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates in Masindi District have won all the parliamentary seats following the recently concluded elections.

Asiimwe Florence Akiiki, the incumbent District Woman Member of Parliament on the NRM ticket, retained her seat after polling 57,783 votes. She was followed by Lilian Kasangaki (Independent) with 10,478 votes, Asiimwe Nottie Karen (FDC) with 8,658 votes, while Shamim Kasemesimire (Independent) came last with 5,241 votes.

In Buruli County, Akugizibwe Aled Ronald (NRM) won the parliamentary seat with 13,321 votes, followed by Julius Mugisa who garnered 11,087 votes.

Zacheus Mwetegya (Independent) obtained 1,365 votes, followed by Patrick Ongei (DF), Fred Barongo (Independent) and Ismail Nyakojo (Independent), while FDC’s Fredrick Banage Bitamale came last with 222 votes.

For Bujenje County, Kenneth Kiiza Nyendwoha (NRM) emerged victorious with 14,394 votes, followed by Patrick Paddy Kasumba (Independent) with 12,310 votes.

Rogers Kasaija Wyclif (NUP) garnered 1,869 votes, Wilson Tugume (Independent) received 421 votes, Fred Safari (Independent) got 390 votes, while Philip Kyamanywa (Independent) came last with 213 votes.

In Masindi Municipality, four candidates tussled for the seat, which was won by Rogers Byamukama (NRM) with 13,360 votes. He was followed by Joab Businge (FDC) with 9,506 votes, Vincent Tumwesige (Independent) with 1,477 votes, Steven Wandera (NUP) with 916 votes, while Cosmas Byaruhanga (Independent) came last with 385 votes.

The results were officially declared by Gastervus Kakaire, the Electoral Commission Returning Officer for Masindi District, on Saturday January 17, 2026 at 1:00am.

Speaking to the media after his declaration, Kenneth Kiiza Nyendwoha, the MP-elect for Bujenje County, said that during his second term he will focus on lobbying for more seed secondary schools, health centres, special funding for roads especially bridges and improving household incomes.

The Woman MP-elect, Asiimwe Florence Akiiki, said that having all MPs from one party gives Masindi a common voice on the floor of Parliament.

She pledged to ensure completion of key government projects, including the construction of Masindi Central Market and Masindi Hospital.

She also promised to support communities through provision of tents and chairs at parish level, youth skilling programmes, and education funds for vulnerable children.

Rogers Byamukama, the MP-elect for Masindi Municipality, pledged to work closely with former area MPs, including the incumbent Joab Businge (FDC) and Ernest Kiiza Apuuli, to ensure that unfinished projects are completed.

Meanwhile, Akugizibwe Aled Ronald, the MP-elect for Buruli County, said he will lobby for seed schools in sub-counties without them, primary schools in underserved parishes, and tractors for every sub-county to boost agricultural productivity. He also called for unity and cooperation among the legislators since they all belong to the same party.
