NEED party accuses Hoima City electoral commission of irregularities

Odaka revealed that the party is preparing to take legal action against the EC.

Hoima: The National Economic Empowerment and Development (NEED) Party has accused the Hoima City Electoral Commission (EC) of engaging in electoral irregularities, claiming that what transpired in the Bunyoro region reflects broader issues affecting the democratic process nationwide.

The allegations were made by Asuman Odaka, the party’s Secretary General, during a press conference held at NEED’s newly established regional headquarters in Kijungu, Bunyoro on Thursday.

Odaka revealed that the party is preparing to take legal action against the EC.

“Our lawyers are working on filing a case against the Electoral Commission. What happened in Hoima is not an isolated incident; it mirrors systemic problems across the country,” said Odaka.

The accusations stem from the experience of George Kiiya, who was denied nomination for the Hoima West mayoral seat under the NEED ticket. Kiiya expressed frustration, alleging that he was subjected to stricter requirements than other candidates, which he described as unfair and discriminatory.

“The nomination process was neither free nor fair. I am left with no option but to pursue legal action,” Kiiya said.

Despite the setback, Odaka commended party members in the Bunyoro sub-region for their commitment, particularly for establishing a regional office to coordinate party activities.

Kasimu Asiimwe, a dedicated member who helped secure the party’s new premises, revealed that 20 members came together to mobilize resources and acquire a house, which has been donated to NEED President Josephat Kabuleta as a symbol of support.

“As Bunyoro rallies behind Kabuleta, we urge all Ugandans to support his presidential bid,” Asiimwe stated.

The official opening of the new NEED headquarters is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2025, and will be presided over by Josep Kiiza Kabuleta himself.
