Museveni condoles Kakira accident victims, pledges support
He pledged to ensure that formal condolences and assistance would reach the bereaved families.
Soroti: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the victims of the tragic Kakira accident, which claimed seven lives and left several others injured, writes Emmah M Bwayo.
The heartbreaking incident occurred early Thursday morning on the Jinja-Iganga highway at Kakira.
The collision involved a taxi (registration number UBP 574J) traveling from Mbale to Kampala and a stationary Fuso truck (registration number UAF 333B), which had broken down due to a mechanical issue.
Among those who tragically lost their lives were Tasike Seith, Lunyolo Petwa, Wetaka Emmanuel, and Mulekwa Mark. Two of the deceased, Wangolo John and Kabale Godfrey, were district councilors from Manafwa District traveling to Kampala on personal errands.
During a media engagement on Tuesday afternoon at the Teso State Lodge in Soroti held as part of his wealth creation tours in the Teso region State House staff member Keffa Mafumo informed the President of the accident.
Mafumo relayed that some leaders from Bugisu and a number of Museveni’s bazukulu (youth supporters) were among the injured. He also appealed for government support for the affected families during this difficult time.
In response, President Museveni expressed profound sorrow over the incident and pledged to ensure that formal condolences and assistance would reach the bereaved families. He reiterated his deep sympathy for the losses and injuries suffered, promising support to those affected.
