MP Asinansi denied access to Hoima Regional Blood Bank
She expressed frustration over the situation, emphasizing that part of her role as an MP is to oversee government projects funded by taxpayer money.
Hoima: Asinansi Nyakato Kamanda, the Woman Member of Parliament for Hoima City, was denied entry to the Hoima Regional Blood Bank during an oversight visit on Saturday.
Nyakato aimed to assess the progress of the construction and verify the purchase of machines funded by Parliament.
Upon her arrival, security personnel at the construction site informed her that they had been instructed to deny access, citing orders from higher authorities. They advised her to seek permission from the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) and the District Police Commander (DPC) before entering.
Nyakato expressed frustration over the situation, emphasizing that part of her role as an MP is to oversee government projects funded by taxpayer money. She noted that Parliament allocated 2.9 billion Ugandan shillings for the construction of the blood bank, and it is crucial for both leaders and the public to monitor its progress as part of corporate social responsibility.
“It’s unfortunate that I’ve been denied access,” Nyakato stated. She further mentioned that without being able to inspect the site, she would be unable to determine the quality of the work done or effectively represent the issue in Parliament.
After reaching out to RCC Badru Mugabi regarding her access denial, Nyakato was told that it was untrue that the RCC’s office could prevent her from monitoring the site.
With her access blocked, Nyakato is concerned about her ability to advocate for the project or inform her constituents accurately about the status of the blood bank construction.
