Mob lynches man for stabbing his landlord in Masindi
She suspects that the attack may have been financially motivated.
Masindi: A 30-year-old man has been lynched by an angry mob in Kirasa 3 Cell, Masindi Central Division, Masindi District, after allegedly attempting to murder his landlord on the night of August 11, 2025.
The incident occurred at around 10:00 PM when the suspect, whose identity had not yet been confirmed at the time of reporting, reportedly attacked his landlord identified as Byabasaija, also known locally as Bbookwe as he went to fetch water from a nearby tap.
According to the area LC1 Chairperson, Hamza Kabaka, the tenant stabbed Byabasaija multiple times in the head and chest. The landlord’s cries for help alerted nearby residents, who quickly responded and reportedly beat the assailant to death.
Kabaka added that the injured landlord was rushed to a local health facility in Masindi town in critical condition, while police were called to the scene. Authorities transported the deceased’s body to Masindi Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.
Chairperson Kabaka criticized landlords in the area for failing to register their tenants with local council authorities an oversight he believes contributes to such violent incidents. “If tenants were properly documented, it would be easier to identify and track potential threats,” he said.
Hanifah Akugizibwe, a neighbor to the victim, claimed that earlier in the day she had seen Byabasaija counting a significant amount of money. She suspects that the attack may have been financially motivated.
Efforts to get a comment from the police were unsuccessful by the time of filing this story
