Minister Lillian Aber brings water relief to Akurumo residents

Kitgum: Hon. Aber Lillian, the State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees and the Kitgum District Woman Member of Parliament, has delivered much-needed water relief to the people of Akurumo in Orom East Subcounty through the drilling and installation of a new borehole that will serve eight neighbouring villages.

Minister Aber said the newly completed borehole adds to several others she drilled across Kitgum District during her first term as Woman MP. She emphasized that her leadership is rooted in action and tangible impact, reaffirming her commitment to continue delivering transformative services to the people.

Currently, Minister Aber Lillian is on her campaign trail seeking to retain her position as Kitgum District Woman Member of Parliament. Her campaign started in the greater Orom and Omiya areas and has now reached Akwang Subcounty.

During her first term, Minister Aber Lillian accomplished numerous development interventions across the district, including; supporting youth groups with over 50 million shillings for inter-loaning, distributing 20 tonnes of maize seeds to youth groups in all 83 parishes to enhance food security, lobbying equipment from the Green Jobs Program such as sewing machines, motorcycles, and other tools to boost youth enterprises, linking many young people to employment.

Opportunities in the UPDF, Police, Prisons, NGOs, and various government programs, supporting over 70 students with school fees and connecting others to State House Scholarships, securing, through Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, 20 Bachelor’s scholarships at Gulu University for sons and daughters of Kitgum.

Supporting community schools with roofing materials and iron sheets, and contributing to the construction of community-initiated schools like Kamanding in Orom, inviting the CDF, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to Kitgum, which strengthened security deployment and reduced cattle raids in Chua East, mobilizing the Acholi Parliamentary Group to convene in Orom to address persistent insecurity, donating bulls to families that lost cattle during raids to help rebuild their livelihoods, delivering food items to families affected by wildlife conflict in Chua East.

Supporting nodding disease victims with food and non-food items, contributing significantly to district-wide Women’s Day and Youth Day celebrations, covering over 90% of the budget annually, giving women groups in the district 1,000,000 shillings each for inter-loaning and financial empowerment, donating pigs and other livelihood items to women’s groups.

Others are distributing basins and delivery materials to expectant mothers, lobbying for two ambulances, one from government and one through her personal efforts, successfully pushing for the upgrade of Kitgum Matidi Health Centre III and Mucwini Health Centre III to Health Centre IV status, distributing delivery beds and wheelchairs to health facilities to promote safe motherhood.

More are lobbying for Kitgum District to join the CHEWS program, leading to the recruitment and training of two VHTs per parish, now receiving salaries, transport, and working equipment and securing 1 billion shillings for the construction of a modern medicine store at Kitgum Hospital, a project currently underway among many other achievements.
