Minister Babalanda confirms President Museveni’s candidature in 2026
He urged them to make substantial contributions to the government's performance in the 2026 elections by diligently monitoring and evaluating ongoing government programs.
Mbale: Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babirye Babalanda, has officially confirmed that President Yoweri Museveni will be seeking re-election in the 2026 general elections, writes Emmah Bwayo.
The confirmation came during the closing session of a three-day capacity-building workshop for Resident District/City Commissioners (RDCs) and District Internal Security Officers (DISOs) from Bugisu and Bukedi Sub-regions, held at Wash and Wills Hotel in Mbale City on Wednesday.
Minister Babalanda emphasized the continued belief in President Museveni’s leadership, urging the RDCs to redouble their efforts in preparation for the upcoming elections.
She also highlighted the importance of the RDCs’ role in promoting government programs and encouraging citizens to appreciate initiatives aimed at national development, especially as the president embarks on a wealth creation campaign across the country.
Addressing the RDCs, Babalanda cautioned against corruption, stressing that anyone found engaging in corrupt practices would be personally held accountable. Her remarks aimed to reinforce the need for integrity within the government ranks as the election season approaches.
Col. Emmy Katabazi, Deputy Director General of the Internal Security Organization (ISO), also addressed the RDCs, urging them to make substantial contributions to the government’s performance in the 2026 elections by diligently monitoring and evaluating ongoing government programs.
In response, Naome Nakawala, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Mbale, welcomed the training, emphasizing that RDCs must remain committed to upholding the integrity of the Presidency and avoid actions that could tarnish its reputation.
As the country heads toward the 2026 elections, the government is intensifying efforts to ensure that its programs and leadership remain well-regarded by the public, with the RDCs playing a critical role in supporting this mission.
