Mbale gears up for Joshua Cheptegei Marathon

Mbale: The Bamasaaba Cultural Institution, through its spokesperson Mr. Steven Masiga, has pledged to mobilize clan chairpersons and ministers within the institution to actively participate in the upcoming Joshua Cheptegei Marathon, scheduled for November 1, 2025 in Mbale City.
The marathon will feature a variety of race categories, including the 5-kilometer, 10-kilometer, and 30-kilometer runs, covering designated routes in and outside Mbale City.
The event is being supported by major organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Bank for Africa (UBA), and the Ministry of Tourism, among others.
Masiga emphasized that the cultural institution fully aligns with the objectives of the marathon, and will make full use of both traditional mobilization methods and digital platforms to encourage wide participation across all age groups.
“Once you involve us, we get involved. We will mobilize our people both young and old through every means available,” Masiga said.
He praised the Joshua Cheptegei Foundation for recognizing the institution’s role and for promoting themes such as; tourism promotion, environmental conservation and healthy living.
“Marathons like this are the new medicine for both the young and old. Let us run for environmental sustainability, let us run for tourism, and let us run for the needy,” Masiga added.
He also saluted the marathon organizers, including; Mr. Kuka, Chairman of the Joshua Cheptegei Foundation, Mr. Abraham Kiplimo, Chief Executive Officer and Madam Winnie, Tourism Officer for Mbale City.
Masiga concluded by urging all Bamasaaba and Ugandans at large to participate, noting that this is more than a sporting event it’s a cultural celebration and a step toward a healthier and more united society.
