Masindi to benefit from UCMID program

She encouraged the public to offer their support once the program gets underway.

Masindi: Masindi is one of the 19 municipalities in Uganda that will benefit from the newly introduced Uganda Cities and Municipalities Infrastructure Development (UCMID) program.

The UCMID program replaces the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID), which concluded last year. USMID had been implemented across several municipalities, with some of them eventually attaining city status.

Dr. Bernard Oduru, a consultant with the Urban Authorities Association of Uganda, disclosed the news during a consultative meeting with the members of Masindi Municipal Development Forum.

The meeting focused on addressing challenges faced by the forum and offering recommendations for improvement. The forum gathered at the municipal headquarters on Wednesday.

Dr. Oduru explained that the exact start date for the UCMID program is yet to be confirmed but emphasized that having a fully functioning Municipal Development Forum is a crucial requirement for municipalities to benefit from the program.

He also highlighted that the recommendations made during the meeting would be used to create a training manual for forum members to better prepare for the program’s commencement.

Prosy Flora Isingoma, President of the Masindi Municipality Development Forum, expressed optimism about the significant benefits that the municipality will derive from the program.

She encouraged the public to offer their support once the program gets underway.
