Masindi: Police in Masindi District are investigating a case of cattle theft that occurred on the night of October 27, 2025, in Omwiguru Village, Kijunjubwa Sub-county.

According to Julius Allan Hakiza, the Greater Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, the victim, James Njunjure, a 41-year-old cattle keeper, lost seven cows after unknown thieves broke into his kraal.

Hakiza confirmed that five suspects have since been arrested in connection with the theft. They include Kasigazi William, Ninsiima Amos, Talemwa Stephen, Kabandize Geoffrey, and Kabobo Isaac.

“We have so far recovered two of the stolen cows, and a case file has been registered as investigations continue,” Hakiza said.

The police spokesperson added that statements have been recorded from witnesses, exhibits recovered and photographed, and suspects detained. Preliminary findings indicate that the group was involved in stealing and selling cattle across different districts.

Hakiza revealed that the stolen animals were sold at Ngoma Market in Nakaseke District, and the suspects are believed to be part of a wider network of cattle thieves operating in the region.

He assured the public that police are committed to ensuring justice for the victims and appealed to residents to share timely information that can help curb the rampant cattle theft in the Greater Albertine Region.
