Masindi NRM chairpersons launch association to monitor government programs
He called for unity and cooperation between civil servants and political leaders in the district while executing their oversight role.
Masindi: National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairpersons at sub-county, division, and town council levels in Masindi District have launched an association aimed at strengthening the monitoring of government programs and improving service delivery.
The association, named the Masindi District NRM Chairpersons for Divisions, Sub-counties and Town Councils Association, was recently launched at Kolping Hotel in Masindi.
While addressing the media during the launch, the association chairperson, John Babiiha Byaruhanga, said the group was not formed to fight any individual or institution but to strengthen the monitoring of government programs and ensure effective service delivery.
“We have not come to fight any individual but to strengthen the monitoring of government programs and ensure effective service delivery. We want to ensure that health workers account for the drugs received and distributed, schools have the exact number of registered learners, community roads are well maintained, and that our communities access clean water,” Babiiha said.
He called for unity and cooperation between civil servants and political leaders in the district while executing their oversight role.
“We are calling upon both civil servants and politicians to cooperate and work with us as we execute our duties because it is a collective responsibility to monitor government programs,” he added.
John Karuhanga, the association’s vice chairperson said the initiative aligns with a presidential directive requiring NRM chairpersons to supervise government programs.
Karuhanga noted that Masindi District has been facing challenges related to poor service delivery, including shoddy work on government projects, which has necessitated stronger monitoring mechanisms.
Meanwhile, the association’s publicity secretary, Mohamoud Kyamanywa, revealed that the group was formed and registered in October last year.
He explained that the association’s main objective is to monitor the implementation of government programs, which forms part of the mandate of NRM party chairpersons.
Kyamanywa added that the group also intends to fight corruption and improve service delivery in the district, saying this will help mobilize support for President Yoweri Museveni ahead of the 2031 general elections.
The association currently has 18 members, representing all lower administrative units across Masindi District.
