Masindi Municipal Planner accused of embezzlement

‘’We shall engage an auditor to verify if there was value for money in the expenditure.

Masindi: There was quite a bit of tension in the Masindi Municipal Council over the alleged embezzlement of funds.

During the Municipal Council held recently, councillors accused the planner, Daniel Kisakye, of embezzling 22 million shillings, which was allocated for the construction of a new administration block.

The budget for the 2023/24 financial year included 22 million shillings for this project. Ndabi Peter, the Councillor representing Kikwanana Ward questioned Kisakye on how this amount was spent solely on bricks, which he believes are not worth the money.

Alinaitwe Richard, the councillor representing Civic Centre Ward expressed surprise at Kisakye’s claim that the entire amount was spent on bricks. ‘’You cannot tell us that the whole money was spent on procuring bricks.’’

The Municipal Speaker, Tadeo Opio, has tasked Kisakye to present a detailed report on the expenditure in the next council meeting.

‘’The planner should come up with a report on how the 22 million shillings was only spent on brick and present it to the council in the next sitting.’’

Kisakye responded that the budget had to be adjusted based on the available funds.

Ronald Businge Kyomuhendo, the mayor, criticized Kisakye for making decisions without consulting the council and executive members, which he deemed inappropriate.

Kyomuhendo mentioned that they plan to engage an auditor to verify if there was value for money in the expenditure. ‘’We shall engage an auditor to verify if there was value for money in the expenditure.
