Masindi LCV aspirant Wobusobozi petitions NRM over alleged election irregularities

Wobusobozi states that the election was invalid as it was not conducted in accordance with the principles and provisions of the NRM party constitution and guidelines and other relevant laws which substantially affected the results.

Masindi: Tensions have risen within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Masindi District as Patrick Wobusobozi, a candidate in the party primaries for the LCV Chairperson seat, has filed a formal petition challenging the declaration of Godfrey Byarugaba as the party’s flag bearer.

In a petition dated July 28, 2025, and received by the NRM Elections Disputes Tribunal on July 30, Wobusobozi accuses the Masindi District NRM Registrar, Moses Ogwang, of manipulating election results in favor of Byarugaba.

Wobusobozi states that the election was invalid as it was not conducted in accordance with the principles and provisions of the NRM party constitution and guidelines and other relevant laws which substantially affected the results.

He adds that, the results were irregular and erroneous as tallied percentages do not add up indicating that, Byarugaba Godfrey got 15276 (47%), Kyetume Kasanga David; 4445 (14%), Kiirya Moses 1,119 (11%) and Wobusobozi Patrick 11,537 (35%) making a total of 32,491 votes (107%) hence Ogwang declaring Byarugaba as a winner and flag bearer.

According to the petition, subsequent Declaration of Results form issued by the same Moses Ogwang to Patrick Wobusobozi indicates that changed results specifically for Kiirya Moses having a reduced percentage from the originally declared 11% to 4% while the results for Kyetume Kasanga David is altered from the first results of 4445 votes to 4485 votes and the percentage remained the same whereas the results and percentages for Wobusobozi and Byarugaba remained the same.

Wobusobozi further states in the petition that, several declaration of results forms were tampered with in favor of Byarugaba, there was voter bribery at polling stations and his agents were denied access to the tally center to protest the alteration that were made.

Wobusobozi also says yellow book was not used in most polling stations on the vting day, several declaration forms were unlawfully excluded from the final tally while voters from Masindi military barracks were ordered to elect Byarugaba.

In sight of the above and more other reasons, Wobusobozi asks the NRM Elections Tribunal to annul the declaration of Byarugaba Godfrey as NRM flag bearer for Masindi district LCV seat, order recount or fresh election in accordance with NRM constitution and electoral guidelines and grant any other relief that the tribunal may deem fit in the interest of justice.

Addressing the media recently, Byarugaba refuted allegations of vote rigging stating that all results were tallied after the elections.
