Masindi: Isaac Bongomin, the LCIII Chairperson for Central Division in Masindi Municipality, Masindi District, has won the race for the position of District Councillor representing Central Division.
Bongomin, who earlier lost the Masindi Municipality mayoral seat on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket in the recently concluded polls, bounced back to win the councillorship position following the postponement of the election after the death of one of the candidates, James Munaku, shortly after nomination.
Bongomin was among the 12 candidates nominated to contest for the position. Other candidates who joined the race after losing in the general elections included Moses Kirya, the Masindi District Speaker who had lost the district chairmanship race, and Richard Alinaitwe, who lost the Masindi Municipality councillor seat representing Civic Centre Ward.
During the hotly contested election conducted on Thursday, March 12, 2026, Bongomin, running as an Independent candidate, emerged the winner with 664 votes. He was followed by Goodman Faruk Bukyanagadi of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) with 548 votes, while Richard Alinaitwe, also an Independent candidate, came third with 539 votes.
Moses Kirya, the district speaker, came fourth with 337 votes, followed by Maxwell Ryan Kyamanywa with 128 votes, Ronald Bantu with 110 votes, Innocent Bikorwomuhangi of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) with 65 votes, Alberto Kitende Baker with 60 votes, Noah Ntaro Byabasaija with 41 votes, Bagire Muzamil of NUP with 27 votes, and Patrick Agaba Allan who came last with 12 votes.
Gustavus Kakaire, the Masindi District Electoral Commission Returning Officer, declared Isaac Bongomin the duly elected District Councillor representing Central Division after obtaining the highest number of votes.
While addressing the media after being declared the winner, Bongomin pledged to serve the people of Central Division diligently.
“I will ensure improved health services, education, clean and safe water, and also lobby for government programs for the people of Central Division,” he said.
