Masindi FDC secretary general defects to NRM
She disclosed thattwo bigwigs from FDC in her cell have registered in the Yellow NRM Book.
Masindi: The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party secretary general for Masindi Municipality, Rogers Amanyire has ditched his party and joined the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party.
Amanyire, who contested for the Masindi Municipality mayoral seat in the 2021 elections on the FDC ticket, defected to the ruling party over the weekend.
Amanyire, who registered in the Yellow NRM Book during the just concluded party members register update, asserted that he decided to join the ruling party following thorough consultations with the electorates in the municipality.
‘’I have not been bribed or paid to join NRM; the way I joined FDC in 2018 is the same I have decided to join NRM. After conducting thorough consultations, the majority of my supporters advised me to join the NRM,’’ he said.
Josephine Namboze, the NRM registrar for Kayanja Cell from where Amanyire registered in the NRM party, said Amanyire becomes the second FDC bigwig to be registered in the NRM register in the cell.
Moses Ogwang, the Masindi District NRM registrar welcomed Amanyire to the party and argued other opposition members to do the same.
However, Ogwang noted that the party has prepared an oath of allegiance which Amanyire and other defecting opposition members will sign and take before being admitted into NRM.
Fredrick Banage Bitamale, the FDC party chairperson in Masindi district said party members have a right to join other parties or stay in the same parties.
‘’Every member has a right to stay in or defect from a party; the reason Amanyire joined us is the same that has made him to leave us,’’ Banage said.
However, Banage noted that no one is as big as the party adding that although Amanyire has defected; they are still registering new members into the party.
Ronald Alled Akugizibwe, the Member of Parliament representing Buruli County in Masindi district said Amanyire has made a right decision to join the NRM.
