Masindi: Police in Masindi district have in custody Charles Baguma, a male councilor representing Kihuuba ward to the Masindi Municipal Council.
According to a resident of Kihuuba Cell in Karujubu Division who preferred anonymity, the owner of the pig, only identified as Kahunawe, lost his pig on the night of Saturday, and this prompted him to report to Masindi Central Police Station.
‘’He went to the police on Sunday at around 10 a.m. and reported that matter,’’ he explained.
Later, at around 10:30 a.m., police visited the Kahunawe’s home with a sniffer dog, which traced the whereabouts of the pig, and it was discovered in the home of the male councilor when they had already slaughtered it.
‘’Though he is claiming to have bought the pig from someone, we are doubting because we have been getting rumors of him being a thief, and only that we didn’t have evidence,’’a resident claimed.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the arrest of the honorable councilor and said he is detained at Masindi Central Police Station pending investigations.
‘’We arrested him on Sunday, and he is in our custody at Masindi Central Police Station pending investigations,’’ he confirmed.
Hakiza told this publication that in his statement, the suspect refuted the allegations of stealing a pig but insisted that he bought it from someone.
