Masindi councillors accuse investor of colluding with municipal leaders to grab government land

She emphasized that James Venture’s Investment must provide legal documentation to justify its claim to the land.

Masindi: Tensions have escalated in Masindi Municipality following allegations that James Venture’s Investment has been involved in a land-grabbing scheme.

Recently, Masindi Municipal councillors stormed a plot of land near Masindi prison, where they removed poles allegedly erected by the investor to fence off the property.

The councillors are accusing the investor of conspiring with municipal leaders to illegally acquire government land, bypassing the necessary approval from the council.

They further claim that municipal officials have previously defended James Venture’s activities, including his garbage collection operations in the town, which they now believe were part of a larger scheme to seize municipal land.

Betty Kyomuhendo, the Deputy Mayor of Masindi Municipality, clarified that municipal leaders, through the town clerk, have put a halt to any further development on the disputed land.

She emphasized that James Venture’s Investment must provide legal documentation to justify its claim to the land.

Kyomuhendo also noted that the municipal council has never sold any of its land to the investor, warning that legal action will be pursued if the developments continue without proper authorization.

Daniel Kasala, the town clerk, condemned the fencing of the municipal land as illegal. He confirmed that the municipality has no sale agreement with James Venture’s Investment for the land in question.

Kasala further assured that municipal authorities are working with the police and other security agencies to protect municipal property from illegal land grabs. His office has also issued a formal letter suspending all activities on the land until the situation is clarified.

Attempts to contact representatives from James Venture’s Investment for comment were unsuccessful, as the investor did not respond to repeated calls.

As of the latest update, poles and other construction materials abandoned at the site by workers were confiscated and taken to the municipal council offices as evidence for further investigation.
