Masindi: Amanyire elected Western Ward NRM Chairperson as Minister Balaam steps down
“I thank party members for electing me unopposed. I appeal for your continued support as I seek leadership at the district level,” Karuhanga said.
Masindi: Former Masindi Municipality Mayor, Joshua Amanyire Kiiza, has been elected unopposed as the NRM Chairperson for Western Ward, Central Division, Masindi Municipality.
Amanyire was officially declared the winner by Jacqueline Namirimo, the NRM parish registrar for Western Ward, during an event held on Monday May 12, 2025 at Old St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Kihande II Cell.
The other elected NRM leaders for Western Ward include; Mohamed Sozi, the Vice Chairperson, Lawrence Ziwa, the General Secretary, the Patrick Alinaitwe, the Secretary for Publicity and Murshid Abigaba, the Secretary for Finance.
Although Minister Balaam Barugahara had been nominated to contest for the Secretary for Finance position, he voluntarily stepped down in favor of Murshid Abigaba.
Barugahara said his decision was aimed at encouraging broader participation in party leadership. “As the NRM party, we need to allow many people to take over leadership roles. I also have several responsibilities that require my attention nationwide,” Barugahara explained.
In his acceptance speech, Amanyire expressed gratitude to the party members for entrusting him with the leadership role.
“I thank you all for the support. I pledge to continue serving the NRM party as I have always done. I ask for your support when I seek leadership at the next level within the party structure,” he said.
Dr. Florence Asiimwe, the Masindi District Woman MP, congratulated the newly elected leaders and encouraged them to stay active in upcoming party activities.
“I’m also vying for the party flag. Our internal elections will be conducted on 16th July, and I kindly request for your support,” she added.
In Bikonzi Parish, Bikonzi Sub-county, Princess Kabakumba Labwoni Masiko was elected as the NRM Chairperson, defeating Ngonzebwa Betty of Isagara Village.
The election, held at the Bikonzi Sub-county headquarters, involved village leaders from the 13 villages that make up Bikonzi Parish. Kabakumba secured 193 votes, while Ngonzebwa received 27 votes.
Kabakumba is also seeking re-election as the NRM District Chairperson for Masindi.
Meanwhile, in Kitamba Parish, John Karuhanga was elected unopposed as the NRM Parish Chairperson. He is also eyeing the Masindi District NRM Chairperson seat.
“I thank party members for electing me unopposed. I appeal for your continued support as I seek leadership at the district level,” Karuhanga said.
