Man on run after stabbing wife to death over phone photos

Lira: Grief and shock have engulfed residents of Alit Village in Awiodyek Sub-county, Lira City following the tragic death of 39-year-old Evelyn Atoo who was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband during a domestic dispute over a smartphone.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday evening when Atoo’s husband, Bonny Olungu, reportedly found photographs of two men on her phone and suspected she was involved in an extramarital affair. In an attempt to defend herself, Atoo is said to have explained that the photos were of her son and his friend.
However, tensions quickly escalated when Olungu allegedly attempted to smash the phone, leading to a violent scuffle. During the altercation, Atoo was stabbed.
She was rushed to Emmanuel Medical Clinic at Corner Amach Trading Centre in a desperate effort to save her life but medical personnel pronounced her dead at around 9pm after she reportedly lost a significant amount of blood.
The heartbreaking incident has left family members, neighbours and the wider community in disbelief as what began as a domestic disagreement turned fatal within moments.
North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed to this publication that officers documented the crime scene, recorded witness statements and recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack as an exhibit.

Police in Lira City have since launched a manhunt for the suspect who remains at large.
