Man meets hard life after completing his sentence from prison
Kisoro: Beni Semivumbi, a 41-year-old man from Kisoro District, has faced immense challenges after completing an 8-year and 6-month sentence at Mutukura prison.
His story is one of hardship and struggle, marked by the harsh realities of life both during and after incarceration.
Semivumbi’s troubles began when he was accused of defiling a 4-year-old girl in Mukono district.
Arrested at Seeta police station, he was subsequently taken to three different prisons, including Mutukura, where he served his sentence.
Upon his release on July 3, 2023, Semivumbi received a meager sum of UGX 16,000 from Denis Asiimwe, the Officer in Charge (OC) of Mutukura prison.
However, life outside prison has proven to be equally challenging. With no means to support his family and a newly married wife to care for, Semivumbi faces an uncertain future.
He now seeks assistance from Kisoro district authorities, hoping they can provide guidance on obtaining medication and starting a craft business. His certificate in craft making, acquired during his time in prison, could be a lifeline in rebuilding his life.
The transition from incarceration to freedom is often fraught with difficulties.
