Man kills mother over food in Masindi
Katusabe urged parents and guardians to instill discipline and values in their children, warning that neglect can lead to tragic outcomes.
Masindi: Residents of Pakanyi Village in Pakanyi Sub-County, Buruli County, Masindi District, are in shock after a man allegedly killed his own mother following a disagreement over food.
The suspect, identified as Anatoli Irumba, 30, is currently on the run. He is accused of fatally assaulting his 70-year-old mother, Joyce Nyangireki, with a pestle on Tuesday, just two days after his release from Masindi Prison.
According to Ronald Byabasaija, the LC1 Chairperson of the area, Irumba fled toward Masindi Town after the incident. ”He told his mother he wanted food, but in response, the deceased said the food wasn’t ready.”
Residents quickly rushed the victim to Masindi Main Hospital, but she was later referred to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Byabasaija noted that Irumba was an ex-convict previously imprisoned for attempted murder. Shockingly, it was his mother now the victim who had facilitated his release just a week earlier.
The area female councilor, Ms. Florence Katusabe, described Irumba as a long-time drug abuser. “He has been a notorious drug abuser and had previously been convicted on a murder-related charge,” she stated.
Katusabe urged parents and guardians to instill discipline and values in their children, warning that neglect can lead to tragic outcomes.
As of press time, police had not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
However, local residents have intensified efforts to track down the suspect, even as preparations are underway for Joyce Nyangireki’s burial, scheduled for tomorrow in Pakanyi Sub-County.
