Man commits suicide over mattress

The child replied that it had been taken by his mother.

Mbale: Mbale Central Police Station is actively investigating how a 38-year-old man ended his own life after his wife divorced him and took his only mattress from their bed in Nabudi Cell, Mooni Ward, Industrial Division, Mbale City, on December 6, 2024, at an unknown time.

The incident was reported on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at around 7:52 PM by Wandeba John, a 77-year-old chairperson of LC I Nagudi Cell, Mooni Ward, Industrial Division, Mbale City. The deceased has been identified as Namada Julius, alias Ssalongo, a 37-year-old man of Gisu ethnicity.

According to reports, when the deceased returned home, he found that the mattress was missing and asked one of his children, Masaba Moses, where it was.

The child replied that it had been taken by his mother, Galenda Nuru. The deceased returned after the children had gone to sleep, and in the morning, the children woke up to find their father hanging from a nylon rope.

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region spokesperson,confirmed  the incident and stated that the LC I chairperson of Nagudi Cell was informed, who later reported the matter to the police.

The case has been filed at Mbale Central Police Station, and the body was removed from the rope and taken for a post-mortem examination. Inquiries are ongoing, and more details will follow.
