Ntungamo: Police in Ntungamo district are holding a 25-year-old man accused of murdering his nephew.
The suspect has been identified as Nelson Akandwanaho, 25, a resident of Kyanyanzira village in Nyanga parish, Rubaare subcounty, Rushenyi County, Ntungamo district.
It is alleged that on January 14, 2024, the suspect was discovered with the chopped parts of the deceased, identified as Patrick Ariho, 11, a resident of the same address in his house.
This was unearthed when the wife of the suspect raised an alarm when her husband (the suspect) told her that he had brought meat, requesting that he prepare it for him to test the delicacy of human meat.
Parick Ariho was a pupil at Kiyombero Primary School, located at the same address as the occurrence.
The LCI chairperson for Kyanyanzira village, Steven Basiima, said that it was around 11:15 a.m. on Sunday when the wife of the suspect made an alarm after the husband killed his nephew and ordered her to prepare the meat for him.
Basiima said this attracted residents to the scene. He said that they requested the suspect open the door, but he refused and instead tried to chase them away.
This prompted them to break into the house and arrest the suspect, take him to the Omungyenyi police post, and later transfer him to the Ntungamo central police station.
According to police findings, the suspect was found with chopped pieces of the victim’s parts, including hand fingers and foot toes, among others, in the saucepan, ready to be prepared for a meal.
The area chairperson told ugreports.co.ug that other parts of the abdomen, legs, and arms were dumped by the suspect in his latrine and the latrine of the grandparents of the deceased.
It’s alleged that the suspect is mentally ill, and he used the chance to chop his nephew for a meal when the deceased’s grandparents were attending church services. The deceased was staying with his grandparents when the incident happened.
Currently, the suspect is detained at the Ntungamo central police station pending investigations and inquiries at hand.
By press time, the officer in charge of Rubaare police station, SP Illim Muzoora, was not in the office, and he could not receive our repeated phone calls.
