Lamwo lightning strike victims named

Lamwo: A lightning strike tragedy occurred in Lamwo district at the Palabek Refugee Settlement, claiming the lives of 14 refugees who were gathered for prayer.
The incident took place around 5 pm on Saturday in Zone 8, Block 2, where a storm forced people to seek shelter in a makeshift church.

Out of 48 struck by lightning, 14 individuals, aged 9 to 21, died instantly, while others sustained injuries and were treated at Paluda Health Center III.
The deceased, identified mostly as young people from the Nuer community of South Sudan, include:

- Nyagai Diew, 9, Block 2, Zone 8
- Nyathak Mariner, 12, Block 2, Zone 8
- Lul Riek John, 14, Block 2, Zone 8
- Khamis Tut, 14, Block 1, Zone 8

The Lamwo Resident District Commissioner, William Komakech, met with the victims’ families on Sunday to coordinate the distribution of the bodies and facilitate burial arrangements.
