Kyetume rallies Masindi voters to support Wobusobozi in 2026 general elections

“Our symbol shall be the clock, and victory is just around the corner.”

Masindi: David Kyetume Kasanga, one of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates in the recently concluded LCV flag bearer race, has urged voters in Masindi District to reject the official party flag bearer and instead vote for Patrick

Wobusobozi, who has announced his intention to contest as an independent candidate, rejected the NRM primary results declared last Friday by Returning Officer Moses Ogwang. The results named Godfrey Byarugaba as the winner and official flag bearer.

In a press release staement, Kyetume thanked the 4,486 voters who supported him in the NRM primaries held last Thursday. He alleged widespread electoral malpractices, including bribery and intimidation, claiming that these actions compromised the integrity of the election and handed the flag to Byarugaba unjustly.

Kyetume pointed out specific areas where irregularities allegedly occurred, including Kimengo Subcounty, Masindi Municipality, Kabango Town Council, and parts of Pakanyi Subcounty. He claimed that millions of shillings were exchanged in these areas to undermine the democratic process.

“The people of Masindi made their voices heard. The eventual winner secured only 47% of the vote, meaning 53% of voters did not support him,” Kyetume stated. “This is a clear indication that the majority have no confidence in Byarugaba’s leadership.”

Although reaffirming his loyalty to the NRM and its principles, Kyetume said he cannot support what he referred to as a flawed outcome. He revealed that he was approached by his elder brother, Patrick Wobusobozi, and after consultations, agreed to step aside and support him as an independent candidate.

“I call upon our coordinators, polling agents, supporters, and well-wishers to unite and support Wobusobozi Patrick as our independent candidate for the LCV seat in next year’s elections,” he declared.

“Our symbol shall be the clock, and victory is just around the corner.”
