Kitgum School secures braille textbooks to enhance teaching
This initiative is aimed at facilitating the teaching and learning process for pupils in the school.
Kitgum: The management of Pakuba Primary School in Mucwini West Subcounty, Kitgum district, has secured Braille textbooks to support a Special Needs Education teacher who was deployed at the school at the start of the 2024 academic year.
This initiative is aimed at facilitating the teaching and learning process for pupils in the school.
According to Olok Patrick, the Headteacher of Pakuba Primary School, the Special Needs Education teacher, who had previously been unable to conduct practical lessons, is now teaching Social Studies to primary six and seven students using the Braille textbooks. The teacher dictates lessons to the learners, ensuring that they receive proper instruction.
However, Olok noted that the teacher faces challenges when it comes to assigning and marking class exercises, as he is visually impaired and cannot read the pupils’ written work. To address this issue, other teachers assist in marking the students’ books.
Mucwini West Subcounty Chief, Mr. Onen Tonny, added that the Subcounty leadership is conducting joint monitoring of schools in the area, involving both political and technical leaders. This monitoring is aimed at engaging school administrations to identify challenges and develop solutions.
Mr. Onen also mentioned that they plan to engage parents by organizing community meetings, encouraging them to actively support their children’s education.
