Kitgum Municipality orders demolition of bus park
Construction is expected to commence in the 2025/2026 financial year.

Kitgum: The leadership of Kitgum Municipality has officially announced the scheduled demolition of the Kitgum Bus Park building, set to take place from June 1st to 7th, 2025.
Mayor Ojara Richard Okwera revealed that the demolition will be conducted by the lockup owners themselves, who have been instructed to recover any reusable materials such as iron sheets, timber, doors, and windows during the week-long period.
Failure to comply within the set timeframe will prompt the municipal council to take over the demolition process, beginning June 8th, 2025, and continuing until the site is cleared.
To accommodate those affected by the redevelopment, Mayor Okwera confirmed that bus park tenants will be relocated to the Main Market and other available locations both within and outside the central business district. Additionally, buses and taxis will be temporarily moved to Kitgum Airfield.
This initiative is part of a broader plan to redevelop the Kitgum Bus Park into a modern, multi-billion shilling facility, funded by the World Bank and the Government of Uganda under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) Program.
Construction is expected to commence in the 2025/2026 financial year.
