Kitgum LCV Chairman to intervene in Municipality’s endless disagreements
This has led to an increasing call for action to restore order and ensure proper governance in the Municipality.
Kitgum: The Kitgum District LCV Chairperson, Hon. Arwai Christopher Obol, has stepped forward to mediate the ongoing disputes within Kitgum Municipality.
The prolonged disagreements, which have centered around allegations like the diversion of USMID road funds and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a private developer without the council’s approval, have severely impacted local governance.
Speaking to this publication on Tuesday, Hon. Arwai emphasized that the conflicts, which have been escalating, now require his direct intervention.
The municipality’s leadership had earlier sought assistance from the Ministry of Local Government, hoping for a resolution to these contentious matters.
In response, the Assistant Permanent Secretary at the Ministry underscored the importance of following proper procedures, such as documenting council decisions during meetings, to ensure transparency and accountability.
Despite previous attempts by the Kitgum District Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Ssegawa Nehemiah Jimmy Ebil, to mediate and resolve the conflicts, the disputes have persisted, as his proposed resolutions were not implemented.
This has led to an increasing call for action to restore order and ensure proper governance in the Municipality.
As Hon. Arwai takes up the mantle of mediation, many hope that his leadership will finally pave the way for a peaceful and productive resolution to the ongoing leadership conflicts.
