Kitgum farmers supported with seedlings

He pledged to work together with the Irene Gleeson Foundation towards the progress and development of the project.

Kitgum: The Irene Gleeson Foundation, in partnership with Feed the Hungry and Feed My Starving Children, has supported farmers in the villages of Nabolo and Zaire in Akurumo Parish, Orom East Subcounty, Kitgum District, with garden plowing, planting seeds, and beekeeping equipment, among other resources.

According to John Paul Kiffasi, the Executive Director of the Irene Gleeson Foundation, a total of 84 farm gardens have been opened, and the owners are supporting planting seeds this year.

He made this announcement this Tuesday during a groundbreaking ceremony held at Childcare Nakwanya Community School. He added that two beekeeping groups have also received similar support with beekeeping tools to supplement their household income.

Kiffasi pledged the organization’s support not only in farming but also in the education and health sectors.

The leader of Feed the Hungry, a US-based organization, Mr. Stefan, recognized the Nakwanya community’s contribution to the school and farming projects, expressing his confidence that the seeds of their support will yield fruits in the area, as the school will produce various experts for generations.

Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs who officiated the event, asked the community to have faith in God and to fight household poverty.

He pledged to work together with the Irene Gleeson Foundation towards the progress and development of the project.
