Kitgum: The Elders Council of Labongo Layamo Subcounty, Kitgum District, has resolved to ban night movements by youth due to a suspected rise in crime rates within the subcounty.
Mr. Acellam Munu Loyen, the Labongo Layamo Subcounty Elders Councillor, stated that during their annual council meeting, the elders decided to impose the ban and encouraged parents to engage their children in productive activities to help secure their future.
He further explained that the council also resolved to address land disputes through an independent elders council composed of individuals with unquestionable integrity.
In addition, the elders discouraged the increase of domestic violence in the subcounty and bad dressings amongst the youthful population.
To combat cattle theft, the council also banned the operation of Tuku-tuku motorcycles at night within the subcounty.
