Kirunda Assures Busoga of President Museveni’s January Wealth Creation Tour

Kirunda also addressed political leadership matters, including the reported difficulty some cabinet ministers face in meeting President Museveni.

Butaleja: Haji Faruk Kirunda, the Special Presidential Assistant for Press and Mobilization, and Deputy Spokesperson, has confirmed that President Yoweri Museveni will visit Busoga in January 2025 for a highly anticipated wealth creation tour.

This visit is expected to focus on empowering the people of Busoga through government-backed economic initiatives, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, trade, and industry.

Speaking on a popular radio talk show on December 15, 2024, Kirunda assured residents of Busoga that the President’s visit will be part of the government’s broader effort to boost economic empowerment and address key challenges facing the region.

With a strong focus on wealth creation, Kirunda outlined the government’s strategy to bring resources, knowledge, and programs directly to the people of Busoga, tackling poverty, unemployment, and underdevelopment in the area.

“President Museveni is coming to Busoga in January next year for a wealth creation tour. This visit will focus on promoting economic initiatives that foster growth, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, trade, and industry,” said Kirunda, highlighting the significance of the visit for the region’s future.

The Special Presidential Assistant emphasized that the upcoming tour will involve direct interaction with local communities, stakeholders, and regional leaders, ensuring that the concerns of the people are heard and addressed. The government intends to deliver on its promises to empower the people of Busoga with the tools and knowledge necessary for sustainable economic growth.

During the discussion, Kirunda also addressed ongoing infrastructure projects in the region, particularly the delayed tarmac road construction in Luuka District. While funds for the project have been allocated in the national treasury, Kirunda clarified that the delays are due to challenges surrounding compensation for affected residents, which was not included in the initial budget.

He called on local leadership in Luuka to engage with the affected residents and find solutions to allow the project to move forward, even without waiting for the compensation to be included in the national budget.

“The government is committed to improving infrastructure in the region, but it is crucial that we all work together to ensure the successful implementation of these projects,” Kirunda said, urging leaders to focus on the broader goal of progress rather than getting bogged down by the specifics of budgetary delays.

Another critical issue discussed was the ongoing investigations into illegal land transactions in the Busoga South Forest Reserve, particularly in the Kityerela and Kigandalo areas of Mayuge District. These investigations were initiated by President Museveni and are being led by Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.

Kirunda reassured the public that the government is taking the matter seriously and will ensure that those responsible for illegal land sales and fraudulent land titles will face the law. He emphasized that once the investigations are concluded, the government will take appropriate actions based on the findings.

“Once the investigations are finalized, the government will take necessary actions to ensure that the rule of law is upheld and those responsible for these illegal activities are held accountable,” he stated.

Despite addressing these concerns, Kirunda also took the opportunity to highlight the government’s ongoing and completed initiatives that have positively impacted the region.

He urged residents to recognize and appreciate the efforts being made to improve their lives, while continuing to push for further development.

“We must also recognize and appreciate the ongoing efforts and completed projects that are making a difference in people’s lives,” Kirunda said, stressing the importance of acknowledging progress.

Kirunda also addressed political leadership matters, including the reported difficulty some cabinet ministers face in meeting President Museveni.

He dismissed claims that ministers struggle to meet with the president, explaining that they have ample opportunities to present their reports during cabinet meetings and can meet with the president as needed.

“A minister who claims they cannot meet the president shows a sign of weakness unless the issue is personal,” Kirunda said, emphasizing the importance of ministers focusing on national priorities rather than personal matters.

He also reaffirmed that the authority to transfer or dismiss Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) lies solely with President Museveni, rejecting claims of political interference in these decisions.

The announcement of President Museveni’s wealth creation tour in Busoga has generated significant optimism among locals, who see the visit as an important opportunity to directly engage with the president and address the economic challenges in the region.

The tour aligns with the government’s broader goals of promoting self-sufficiency and reducing poverty across Uganda, especially through initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, which are central to the government’s poverty reduction strategy.

As the region prepares for the president’s visit, the emphasis on wealth creation, infrastructure development, and governance reforms is expected to further solidify the government’s commitment to the socioeconomic growth of Busoga.

With ongoing government efforts to address the region’s challenges and a clear focus on long-term, sustainable development, President Museveni’s January 2025 tour promises to be a critical milestone in shaping Busoga’s economic future.

The tour is expected to be a key moment in the government’s push to empower local communities, improve infrastructure, and ensure that the people of Busoga are directly involved in shaping their economic destiny.
