Kikuube residents tipped on road safety
His comments highlight the need for increased awareness and caution on the roads.
Kikuube: In a bid to curb the rising number of road accidents, leaders in the districts of Kikuube and Kyankwazi have urged all road users to exercise caution and respect each other.
Hon. Francis Kazini, Member of Parliament for Buhaguzi County in Kikuube District, emphasized the importance of responsible road use, particularly on newly constructed roads.
Kazini stressed the need for drivers and riders to ensure their vehicles are in good working condition before hitting the road. He also appealed to all road users to respect each other’s safety, noting that mutual respect is key to preventing accidents.
The MP’s warning comes amid growing concerns over the increasing number of road accidents in the region.
Hon. Francis Kazini also expressed his dismay at a recent accident involving police officers, who are typically entrusted with maintaining law and order. “It’s unfortunate that even those who are supposed to enforce traffic laws and ensure our safety were involved in an accident,” Kazini said.
“This incident serves as a stark reminder that road safety is a collective responsibility and requires vigilance from all of us, regardless of our profession or position.”
Kazini’s comments highlight the need for increased awareness and caution on the roads, even among those who are tasked with upholding traffic laws.
Hon. Innocent Kamusiime Pentagon, former Member of Parliament for Butemba County in Kyankwazi District, has urged for intensified public sensitization on responsible road usage to curb the rising number of accidents.
He emphasized the importance of educating learners in schools on road safety and usage, stressing that this knowledge will benefit them throughout their lives.
Kamusiieme also called upon traffic police to crack down on forged driving permits and ensure that only qualified individuals are issued licenses.
He believes that stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and a reduction in the number of unqualified drivers on the roads will significantly reduce accidents.
By targeting these areas, Kamusiime hopes to see a significant reduction in road accidents and a safer transportation system for all.
The call comes at a time the Bunyoro is registering rampant cases of accident, eleven people died last week as a result of accidents.
Four perished along Hoima – Butiaba road while nine died in Kikuube district.
