Kiira police commended for ensuring peace on Christmas Day
He encouraged both the police and the community to follow the examples of Jesus of Nazareth and Prophet Muhammad in their actions as they usher in the new year, 2025.
Jinja: The Kiira region community has applauded the Uganda Police for their efforts during the festive season. On Wednesday, December 25, 2024 (Christmas Day), churches in Kiira region were filled with families celebrating the birth of Jesus, the greatest gift of God to humankind.
Preacher after preacher cited the significance of Jesus’ birth, emphasizing love, hope, joy, compassion, goodwill, wonder, and excitement.
Thanks to the joint tactical deployment plans on Christmas, celebrations went smoothly in Kiira region. Families attended church services, people reconnected with their loved ones, and music concerts were among the various activities.
“On Christmas, we did not register any fatal road accidents, apart from a minor incident that occurred in the early hours of Thursday, December 26, in Buwenge Town Council, Bwase Zone, where the driver of a Toyota Fielder (UBE 565L) rammed into a building belonging to Asiya Mirembe, 58, causing severe damage to her house, especially the shade,” said SP James Mubi.
However, Buwenge Police responded and arrested a female adult, who appeared to be intoxicated, as indicated by her uncoordinated speech. The driver and other occupants fled the scene, but upon inspecting the vehicle, many bottles of beer and whiskey were found, suggesting that the occupants were all drunk. Fortunately, no lives were lost or injuries reported.
Furthermore, the joint patrol teams reunited twelve stranded children with their parents across the region. The parents expressed their gratitude towards the compassionate love exhibited by police officers while carrying out their patrol duties.
Mubi added that the regional alert squad, commanded by Deputy RPC SSP David Katunda, visited all police stations and posts to check on personnel alertness, patrols, and police counters or reception areas to ensure customer service and professionalism were in order.
Speaking to the press, RPC SSP Charles Nsaba commended the officers for a job well done. “I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to all of you (officers) for your willingness and patriotic spirit in putting the needs of others before your own, even on days when most people are celebrating with their loved ones.” These remarks were made on Thursday, December 26, during a debriefing of personnel (police and UPDF) at the regional fire office premises.
He thanked all stakeholders and the general public for their well-coordinated efforts in ensuring public safety and security during Christmas. He also reminded everyone that the festive season is still ongoing and urged officers, stakeholders, and the public to double their efforts to ensure a peaceful season, especially as the new year approaches.
Nsaba emphasized that security guidelines regarding fireworks must be followed, with all individuals or companies intending to display fireworks required to apply to the IGP for authorization. Counter-terrorism (CT) officers and area DPCs are also responsible for inspecting and supervising venues where fireworks are to be displayed.
He also warned the community that burning tires or jerricans on roads, in homes, or anywhere else is illegal and will be treated as a criminal act. The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) officials will assess the damages, and those responsible will be made to pay for the costs.
He encouraged both the police and the community to follow the examples of Jesus of Nazareth and Prophet Muhammad in their actions as they usher in the new year, 2025.
