Moroto: Akaramojong cattle warrior identified as Loli Longoli, 28 years old, a resident of Kochunoi village, Lobuneit Parish, Rupa Sub County in Moroto district, surrendered a gun on Wednesday.

He was possessing the gun illegally. Longoli took the gun to the 3rd Infantry Division of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in Moroto army barracks.

Longoli was in the company of his area district councilor as he voluntarily handed over SMG No. B/C 64182.

While receiving the gun, the 3rd Division Commander, Maj. Gen. Don William Nabasa, welcomed and thanked Longoli for heeding the voluntary handover of guns in the disarmament operation.

Maj. Gen. Don William Nabasa appealed to the local leadership to continue sensitizing the community with the gospel of voluntary approach and respect for the existing Presidential Amnesty for armed Karacuna to surrender more guns.

Mr. Lokii Emmanuel, the district councilor representing Rupa Sub County, called for more security-community engagement between the Tepeth and Matheniko in the ongoing disarmament operation.

Mr. Longoli said he had been grazing in the wilderness for the last three years and could not hold the operation pressure of the joint security forces in pursuit of armed criminal elements.

Maj. Isaac Oware, the 3rd division UPDF army spokesperson, confirmed this, saying the locals are encouraged to voluntarily hand over the illegally possessed firearms.
