Kagadi: Residents of Kyomunembe B Cell, Kagadi Town Council, woke up to shocking news after discovering Moses Agaba, also known as Muyimbi, dead by suicide.
The 30-year-old boda boda rider was found hanging from a mango tree in his compound.
Agaba, who worked at St. Luke Stage in Kagadi Town Council, left behind a suicide note on his veranda, stating that he had taken his own life willingly.
“It has been my wish. I have not departed forcefully but willingly and happily,” his letter read.
Local leaders and residents described Agaba as a hardworking man with no known criminal record.
Boss Boss Erias, the area chairperson, said: “He was a very good man in our area. He had no criminal record and was known for his dedication to work.”
Joan Babeiha, the Woman District Councilor, condemned suicide and urged the youth to seek support in times of distress.
“It is unfortunate to lose such a soul. I advise the youth who are depressed to seek guidance and counseling from elders rather than resorting to taking their own life,” she said.
Agaba’s wife, Patience Mbabazi, revealed that before his death, he had mentioned being deeply in debt.
“We slept as usual, but when I woke up in the morning, the door was open, and I found him hanging on the mango tree in our compound,” she narrated.
She added that he had been worried about debts and feared being arrested.
However, some of his friends allege that Agaba may have committed an offense, which could have pushed him to take his own life.
His fellow boda boda riders at St. Luke Stage, led by their chairperson Atuha Mukonyezi, expressed shock over his death.
“In our last conversation, Agaba seemed troubled by personal issues, but we never expected this,” Mukonyezi said.
AIP Chemonges Francis, the CID officer at Kagadi Central Police Station, confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding Agaba’s death are ongoing.
Meanwhile, his body has been handed over to the family for burial arrangements.
