Kadaga seeks support from Busoga women leaders in bid for NRM CEC seat

Kadaga responded that she noted their demands and promised to put them in writing and hand them over to President Yoweri Museveni during a Cabinet meeting

Mayuge: The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, has appealed to women leaders across Busoga to rally behind her candidacy for the position of 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) on the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Kadaga made the call during a strategic pre-campaign meeting held at her Hannington Resort in Kyando, Mayuge District on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

The gathering brought together NRM women leaders from all 12 districts of Busoga, including Namayingo, Mayuge, Jinja, Iganga, and Kamuli.

Attendees included chairpersons of district women councils, women leagues, treasurers, publicity secretaries, and other grassroots mobilisers.

During the meeting, Women leaders tabled their demands before Kadaga which included requesting President Yoweri Museveni to request Speaker Annet Anita Among to step down vying for the position of 2nd National Vice chairperson and leave it to Kadaga who is a big voice in Busoga and Uganda at large.

They requested, through Kadaga, to meet President Yoweri Museveni and table their request directly to him and also requested for Motorcycles for their transport means.

The leaders, especially chairpersons of various women league from all the districts of Busoga further requested the central government to consider including them in the National Budget so that they are paid a monthly salary.

However, Kadaga responded that she noted their demands and promised to put them in writing and hand them over to President Yoweri Museveni during a Cabinet meeting.

Kadaga also outlined some of the projects she fought for which include construction of the Musita-Mayuge-Namayingo-Busia Road; elevation of Jinja to a City Status; elevation of Iganga and Bugiri to a Municipality status; supported in the creation of Busoga University; lobbied for UWEP funds, lobbied for GROW project; and educating the girl child in Busoga and Uganda at large among others.

She explained the genesis of the seat of the second National Vice chairperson NRM (FEMALE) to the women leaders saying that it was requested for by the women members at one of the conferences in Namboole stadium in 2005 after realising that the leaders of the party were all men.

She said she was the first inaugural second National Vice chairperson and by that time she was not Speaker of Parliament adding that she became Speaker when she was already a CEC member. She said the office has nothing to do with the Speaker.

After meeting the delegates from different women councils and women leagues endorsed Kadaga for Second National Vice Chairperson NRM (FEMALE) on NRM’s CEC.

Kadaga also announced that she will officially launch her campaign Second National Vice Chairperson NRM (Female) at a public rally to be organised at Iganga district headquarter ground today (July 10th) 2025.
