Kabuleta courts Kiryandongo voters on Palm Sunday

His 2021 presidential bid was marked by similar grassroots engagement and bold rhetoric.

Kiryandongo: On Palm Sunday, a day symbolizing peace, hope, and renewal in the Christian calendar, National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) party president Joseph Kabuleta Kiiza delivered a passionate appeal to voters in Kiryandongo District.

Speaking at Uganda Martyrs Catholic Church in Kisirosorosoro, Kiryandongo Town Council, Kabuleta emphasized his Bunyoro heritage as a key reason why local voters should rally behind his leadership.

“I am the only Munyoro who has managed to contest for the presidency since Uganda gained independence in 1962,” Kabuleta told the congregation, drawing attention to his deep-rooted connection to the region through his father from Hoima.

Kabuleta’s visit coincided with widespread public concern over key issues raised by local NEED contestants across various electoral levels.

Mr. Watum Steven, the Kiryandongo District NEED representative, criticized the lack of services in health centers, stating, “We have buildings, but no services.”

Mr. Ajaga Ismail added that better healthcare facilities are disproportionately available in refugee settlements compared to host communities.

Kibanda North NEED flagbearer Hon. Lumansi Benjamin, emphasized the growing trend of forced evictions and land injustices affecting local communities.

Mrs. Ishara Christine highlighted the challenge of inadequate educational resources, pointing to crumbling infrastructure and underfunded schools in the district.

The troubling practice of moneylenders seizing national identification cards from borrowers was also discussed, with calls for stronger regulation and protections for vulnerable citizens.

Kabuleta reiterated his call for good governance, responsible leadership, and citizen empowerment, urging voters to consider him as a presidential candidate committed to economic growth and the liberation of Uganda’s financial landscape.

A former journalist, sports analyst, and pastor, Kabuleta is known for his vocal criticism of government corruption and his advocacy for financial autonomy among Ugandans. His 2021 presidential bid was marked by similar grassroots engagement and bold rhetoric.

Choosing to address voters on Palm Sunday was no accident. The day, commemorating Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, mirrors the themes of victory, peace, and salvation values Kabuleta says his campaign seeks to embody.
