Kabarole youth receive UGX 113mln under YLP
He advised the beneficiaries to stay consistent in their ventures.
Kabarole: At least 18 youth groups in Kabarole district have received 113 million shillings under the Youth Livelihood Program (YLP).
The revolving fund is a government program designed as one of the interventions in response to unemployment and poverty among the youth.
Some beneficiary groups include Sebitole Youth Goat Rearing Project, Shs. 4 million; Harugongo Youth Tent and Chairs; and Kyabwire Boda Boda Youth Project, Shs. 11 million.
Others are Kasenda Youth Juice Processors, Shs. 5 million; Nyabweya Boda Boda Project, Shs. 11 million; Kahondo Youth Agro-Business, Shs. 5 million; and Kijura Youth Development Association, Shs. 10 million, among others.
Speaking to group leaders on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the district headquarters in Kitumba, Richard Rwabuhinga, the Kabarole District LCV Chairperson, cautioned the beneficiaries against mismanaging the funds and ensuring transparency and accountability.
“Be open to the group members and give them accountability about these funds. YLP is a revolving fund; therefore, ensure that these monies are put to good use so that you can pay back to allow other members to benefit from this program,” Rwabuhinga said.
He also explained that “these funds are sent directly from the Ministry to group bank accounts without passing through the district, so nobody should deceive you that there is any portion left at the district. The money moves from the Ministry directly to your bank accounts.”
Festus Bandeeba, the Kabarole Resident District Commissioner (RDC), noted that youths who are unwilling to work together will continue to miss out on many opportunities to become self-reliant and successful.
He advised the beneficiaries to stay consistent in their ventures.
Timothy Ruhweza, the District Speaker, commended the government for such initiatives that are aimed at empowering the youth with startup capital to begin their own entrepreneurial ventures.
He asked the beneficiary group leaders to be open to their members and ensure that the received funds are injected into the exact registered enterprises.
