Kabarole intensifies clean-up drive ahead of national sanitation week

Kabarole: The Kabarole District Health Department has carried out a clean-up exercise at Kiburara Trading Centre in Hakibale Sub-county as part of preparations for the upcoming National Sanitation Week celebrations scheduled for Thursday at Kiburara Primary School.
The Kabarole District Health Department, is expected to preside over the event.
The exercise, conducted on Tuesday, attracted a wide range of participants including local leaders, health officials, learners, and residents, all working together to improve sanitation and the general cleanliness of the area ahead of the national celebrations.
Participants engaged in activities such as clearing garbage from drainage channels and collecting litter from public spaces in an effort to create a safer and healthier environment for the community.
Kabarole District Health Inspector, Birungi Cecilia, emphasized the importance of the initiative in promoting proper hygiene practices and mobilizing the community to actively participate in the forthcoming celebrations. She noted that maintaining a clean environment is key to preventing the spread of diseases and fostering a healthy community.
Kabarole District Health Officer, Dr. Stephen Kalyegira, said National Sanitation Week serves as a reminder of the critical role improved sanitation and hygiene practices play in reducing disease burden and enhancing overall community health.
Meanwhile, the District Councillor for Hakibale Sub-county, Amanyire John Kasweta, urged residents to maintain clean surroundings beyond the campaign period, stressing that sustainable sanitation requires continuous community effort.
National Sanitation Week, observed annually, aims to raise awareness about the importance of proper sanitation and hygiene practices across the country.
