JUST IN: Police gun down six robbers in Kampala
The police have confirmed that further investigations into the incident are ongoing, with additional details expected soon.
Kampala: In a rapid response to a robbery in progress, Ugandan police have neutralized six suspected robbers during a failed heist at Stanbic Bank, located at Acacia Mall.
According to a police statement issued Monday evening, the suspects were already on the police watchlist, believed to be responsible for a series of previous robberies in the region.
The police successfully foiled the robbery attempt, resulting in the death of six suspects.
“Police have thwarted a bank robbery at Acacia Mall, neutralizing six suspects involved in the Stanbic Bank heist,” the police statement confirmed.
Uganda Police Spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke, revealed that the attempted robbery involved Shs500 million adding that the operation was intelligence-led, with police deploying officers to key locations to intercept suspects traveling on motorcycles.
The suspects had been tracking their target from Acacia Mall, aiming to seize a cash bag. However, they were intercepted at various locations, including Total Acacia and Tagore Road.
“Six of the suspects were neutralized, and police recovered two motorcycles, two pangas, and pepper spray,” Rusoke added. The police have confirmed that further investigations into the incident are ongoing, with additional details expected soon.
