Kampala: Education Minister Janet Museveni released the results of the 2023 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination on Thursday.

The results show that performance in the 2023 examination is significantly better than that of 2022, but students continue to struggle to pass science subjects.

The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) Executive Director, Dan Odongo, disclosed that the failure rate has also dropped by 0.5 percent.

He added that 329,939 (95.9%) of the learners who presented themselves for the 2023 examination can progress to the post-UCE level.

Female candidates performed better than male candidates in the English language.

In the other subjects, males performed better, with the differences being very significant in history, geography, the sciences, and commerce.

Inmates’ results

At Uganda Prison Government Upper, 52 males and 07 females, totaling 59 inmates, sat for the 2023 UCE exams; out of those, six passed in the first grade, 14 in the second, 24 in the third division, and 13 were in the fourth grade. One failed and one missed.

At Uganda Government Prison Mbarara Main Secondary School, 15 inmates sat for the national exams, and of those, four passed in the first division, two in the second division, six in the third division, and three in the fourth division.
