Journalist injured in Mukono electricity protest
Authorities are still searching for the student responsible for assaulting the journalist.

Mukono: David Musosi, a journalist with New Vision, sustained injuries after being hit by a stone thrown by a student from Mukono High School during a protest in Ngandu village over a power outage.
The protest, which took place on April 4, 2025, at around 5:00 p.m., was sparked by the village being without electricity for three weeks.
According to reports, police received information about a demonstration in Ngandu, where locals were protesting the prolonged power outage. The protesters blocked the Ngandu-Kirangira road and burned old tires.
SSP Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, stated that upon the arrival of police, the protesters began throwing stones. During the efforts to disperse the crowd, a stone thrown by a demonstrator later identified as a student from Mukono High School struck David Musosi (also known as Kalyankolo), a journalist from Vision Group’s Bukedde, on the head.
Onyango further clarified that the journalist was immediately taken to Mukono General Hospital for treatment. He confirmed that the situation was eventually brought under control and the road was cleared.
Police also engaged with the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL), which promised to resolve the ongoing power issue.
Additionally, Onyango revealed that several cases including inciting violence, obstruction of police officers, and assault on both a police officer and a journalist are currently under investigation.
The alleged leader of the demonstration, Mbogo Dunstan, was arrested and is being held at the Central Police Station in Mukono for further questioning.
Authorities are still searching for the student responsible for assaulting the journalist.
Onyango also addressed earlier reports, stating that the journalist was injured by a stone thrown by a protester, not by a tear gas canister as initially reported.
