Jonard calls for increased youth productivity ahead of Museveni’s Bunyoro campaign tour

He appealed to the people of Bunyoro to attend in large numbers to show support and gratitude for the President’s contribution to the country and the region.

Hoima: Eng. Jonard Asiimwe, the NRM National Vice Chairman for the Western Region, has urged Ugandans especially the youth to increase their participation in productive activities to boost national revenue collection and support Uganda’s journey toward economic independence.

Asiimwe made the remarks on Sunday while addressing journalists at Hoima Resort Hotel in Hoima City ahead of President Museveni’s visit to the Bunyoro region. He noted that nearly 80% of Ugandan youth are not directly taxed, which he said reflects low involvement in income-generating ventures. Increasing youth participation in production, he emphasized, is essential for sustainable national development.

He further highlighted that Uganda’s security should not be taken for granted, arguing that it remains one of the key reasons the NRM government deserves continued support in the 2026 general elections.

According to Asiimwe, government initiatives such as Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM) were introduced specifically to boost production and ultimately improve national revenue collection.

He called on the public to turn up in large numbers for the President’s visit and discouraged the spread of hate speech, saying it is often politically motivated and not in the country’s interest.

Later in the day, Asiimwe presided over the Bunyoro NRM Pre-Entry Conference, where he expressed concern about party leaders and members who are supporting independent candidates against official NRM flag bearers in the 2026 elections.

Addressing party leaders and flag bearers from across Bunyoro, he warned that supporting independents undermines the party’s strength, noting that independent candidates are not bound by NRM structures.

He revealed that the party is engaging NRM-leaning independent candidates with the intention of convincing them to step down in favor of official flag bearers.

Eng. Asiimwe announced that President Museveni, the NRM presidential flag bearer, will begin his Bunyoro campaign tour on 9th December 2025 in Kibale District, before proceeding to Kiryandongo and Masindi on 10th December. He will then campaign in Buliisa, Hoima City, and Hoima District on 11th December.

The President is expected in Kikuube and Kagadi on 13th December, and will conclude his regional tour in Kakumiro District on 15th December 2025.

Asiimwe said the President’s rallies across the country have been massively attended, attributing the turnout to the public’s appreciation of government programs.

He appealed to the people of Bunyoro to attend in large numbers to show support and gratitude for the President’s contribution to the country and the region.

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija stated that teams have been mobilized to ensure a strong turnout for the President’s campaign activities.

Rosemary Sseninde, the Director for Mobilization at the NRM Secretariat, said the meeting in Hoima was aimed at organizing effective and successful campaign rallies during the President’s tour.

Rogers Amanyire, the NRM flag bearer for the Masindi Municipality mayoral seat, described the meeting as crucial for enhancing mobilization for the presidential candidate and other party flag bearers to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
